What you get
DoubleTree by Hilton Atlanta Airport lists the things a big airport hotel needs: a 24 hour front desk, express check in, lifts, free wifi, air conditioning, parking, a shuttle service, a restaurant, bars, breakfast and a concierge. Rooms carry a desk, a safe, a refrigerator, a kitchen, a coffee maker, a hairdryer, an iron and board, a TV, a telephone, a radio and an alarm clock. There is an outdoor pool, a fitness centre, a banquet room, laundry and dry cleaning, an ATM, family rooms, wheelchair access and pets allowed. The list is long but ordinary for the star rating, and it is thin on anything that would make you choose this over another airport hotel: no spa, no business centre, no room service.
For an early departure or a late arrival, DoubleTree by Hilton Atlanta Airport does the job: you sleep, you eat, you take the shuttle, and the pool and gym fill a few hours if you are stuck. The location in College Park, 2.3 km from the centre of College Park, puts you near Airport, Red/Gold and Off the loop, but it is not a base for seeing Atlanta. It suits a single night, a layover or a working stop. It does not suit a family holiday or anyone who wants the city on the doorstep.

Where it puts you
These hotels sit in College Park, on the airport side of town, and the rail connection is the reason to be here. Airport, Red/Gold is the line you want: it puts you on the same system that runs through the centre, so you can reach Five Points without a car, and the site's own verdict on the area is blunt enough to quote: the cheapest bed in metro Atlanta and sixteen minutes by train to Five Points. Right for an early flight, wrong for a holiday.
The BeltLine side is different. College Park is off the loop, which means the trail is not on your doorstep and this is not a neighbourhood you pick for walking the city. What is walkable here is ordinary: you stay close to the station, you eat nearby, you sleep. Book it if you have a plane to catch or you want the lowest bed cost in the metro. Do not book it if you came to Atlanta for the BeltLine.

Book DoubleTree by Hilton Atlanta Airport if you need a bed near the airport and nothing more, and book it early if your trip falls on a busy travel weekend.
