What you get

Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Atlanta Airport North by IHG lists a lot: a 24 hour front desk, 24H. Security, ATM, air conditioning, balcony, banquet space, bars, a business center with copy and internet access, dry cleaning and laundry service, express check in, a fitness center, free wifi, a garden, lifts, a lounge, luggage storage, non smoking rooms, an outdoor pool, parking, pets allowed, a restaurant, room service, a safe, a shuttle service, a smoking area, special diets, a TV, telephone and toiletries. Rooms can come with a kitchen or kitchenette, microwave, refrigerator, coffee, desk, iron and board, hairdryer, shower and WC. Breakfast is listed, including breakfast in room, along with lunch. The list is thin on detail rather than on categories: it never says which rooms get the kitchenette, how often the shuttle runs or what the pool season is.

For someone flying out of Atlanta, Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Atlanta Airport North by IHG does the job: you are 1.6 km from the centre of College Park, on the Airport, Red/Gold line and Off the loop, with parking, a shuttle and a front desk that never closes. The kitchenette rooms suit a longer stay or a family, and pets are allowed. It is the wrong choice if you want a holiday base: this is an airport property in a college park area, the facilities are functional rather than memorable, and the 3 star rating sets the tone. Book it for a flight, a layover or a work trip, not for a weekend in Atlanta.

Where it puts you

These hotels sit in College Park, on the airport side of town, and the rail connection is the reason to be here. Airport, Red/Gold is the line you want: it puts you on the same system that runs through the centre, so you can reach Five Points without a car, and the site's own verdict on the area is blunt enough to quote: the cheapest bed in metro Atlanta and sixteen minutes by train to Five Points. Right for an early flight, wrong for a holiday.

The BeltLine side is different. College Park is off the loop, which means the trail is not on your doorstep and this is not a neighbourhood you pick for walking the city. What is walkable here is ordinary: you stay close to the station, you eat nearby, you sleep. Book it if you have a plane to catch or you want the lowest bed cost in the metro. Do not book it if you came to Atlanta for the BeltLine.

Booking it

Book this one if your trip is built around a flight, and check your room type first because the kitchenette is not in every category. Most rooms here can be cancelled free, and you book them through app.impt.io. Every confirmed booking removes one tonne of CO2, at no extra cost to you. Five percent of what you pay comes back as IMPT credit, out of the hotel commission rather than added to your bill.

How we know this
