What you get
The Westin Peachtree Plaza Atlanta lists the full apparatus of a large four star business hotel: an indoor pool and a fitness centre, a restaurant and bars, room service and breakfast in room, a business centre, a market, a terrace, and a concierge. Rooms come with air conditioning, bathrobes, a desk, a safe, a hairdryer, an iron and board, an alarm clock, a radio, an iPod dock, a TV and a telephone. There is parking and valet parking, a 24 hour front desk, 24 hour security, express check in, luggage storage and lifts. It is wheelchair accessible, allows pets, and has family rooms. Wifi and internet access are listed. Where the list thins out is the ordinary: cleaning, towels, water, coffee, copy, laundry and dry cleaning are named, so they are available, but nothing here suggests anything beyond standard provision. There is no kitchen and no self contained unit.
What that adds up to at The Westin Peachtree Plaza Atlanta is a property built for volume rather than intimacy. The pool, gym and business centre mean you can work, swim and eat without leaving the building, and the 24 hour front desk and security mean late arrivals are not a problem. The trade is character and calm. A hotel this size is a hotel this size: corridors are long, the lobby is busy, and you are one of many. It suits business travellers, conference attendees and anyone who wants to land in Downtown and have everything on site. It does not suit you if you want a quiet small hotel, a personal welcome, or a part of Atlanta with a neighbourhood feel. The guest score is 4.2 out of 5 from 10969 reviews, which is a large sample and a solid, not exceptional, result.

Where it puts you
You are staying Downtown, inside the loop, where the train at Five Points puts every line in the city within reach. That is the point of the location: you can move around Atlanta without a car, and the rest of the trip is built on that. The site's own line on the neighbourhood is blunt about the trade: the cheapest walk to a train in the city, with convention traffic setting the price, so a Tuesday in January is a different hotel than a Tuesday in October.
The BeltLine trail is also here, and the 0.8 mi to trail is the figure to keep in mind if you plan to walk or run it. This suits anyone whose trip runs on transit and convention schedules. It does not suit a holiday built around quiet streets and long, slow mornings.
Booking it
Book this one if you want the pool, the gym and the business centre on the same bill, since the scale is the whole point. Most rooms here can be cancelled free, and you book them through app.impt.io. Every confirmed booking removes one tonne of CO2, at no extra cost to you. Five percent of what you pay comes back as IMPT credit, out of the hotel commission rather than added to your bill.
Facts on this page come from the booking supplier's record: star class, address, photographs and facility list. Guest scores come from verified stays. We have not stayed here; the neighbourhood copy is our own.
